Fall Camping in New York State

The beginning of fall doesn't have to mean that all of your summer fun has to be over! Fall is the perfect time to pack a bag and get away for the weekend, and camping is the perfect activity to do so. There are many reasons why camping in the fall is better than camping in the summer.

Here are just a few:

The Weather

The fall has the most amazing weather during the day, and it cools down enough to the point where you can sleep comfortably at night. The weather during the day calms down from the blazing hot summer days, so you don’t have to worry about overheating, or other heat related illnesses, like heat stroke or heat exhaustion (though you should always wear sunscreen).

The Scenery

What's more beautiful than looking out and seeing an entire field of orange, red, and yellow leaves? The fall is the most beautiful time of the year, and there’s no better way to enjoy it than to be out in nature soaking it all in. Hiking is a completely different experience when you’re walking through trails that are lined with colorful foliage.

Less Bugs

There are few things in this world more annoying than mosquitoes. When you go camping in the fall, mosquitoes are a rarity, if there are any at all. Enjoy the campfire all night long without getting bitten and becoming itchy for the rest of your vacation.

Fall Activities

The best kind of activities happen in the fall. Apple picking, pumpkin picking and carving, Halloween activities, and Oktoberfest are just a few of the wonderful activities that you can only do in the fall. Bring the family out to an orchard and pick your own apples to bring back to your cabin to bake an apple pie. Pick out the perfect pumpkins, and see who can carve the best one. Find an Oktoberfest near you or the campground you’re staying at, and enjoy the weekend with some friends. Check out our events calendar to see a listing of New York State campground activities.

Quieter Campgrounds

With the kids being back to school, you’re going to have a much quieter and calmer campground. There will be less people on the campground so you and your family won’t have to fight to enjoy the amenities offered. The playgrounds won’t be as crowded, and you can go to bed whenever you want without neighbors keeping you up at night.
