With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we thought we would compose an “ode” to all of the great campgrounds in New York State. If you’ve never been camping in New York before or have only just begun to test the waters, although we may be somewhat biased, we think that New York has some of the best camping in the country. There are so many reasons why New York is great for camping, and below are a few of our favorites.
- The Variety
New York State offers so many options in the types of activities you can enjoy while camping. From water to woods, mountains to fields, urban to rural, the possibilities for different activities are endless.
If water is your preference, New York State has numerous lakes with campgrounds either right on the lake or close by. Or if you’re not a big fan of lakes, most campgrounds offer pools and other water-related activities. There are also campgrounds located close to New York City and other major New York cities if you are looking to do some urban exploring. And of course there are many campgrounds off the beaten path as well for those looking to escape the busy life.
- The Flexibility
With the number of campgrounds located in New York State, you’ll never have trouble finding one in the area you are looking to stay. And, although campgrounds do tend to book up in advance, especially during summer holidays, with a little bit of pre-planning, you’ll more than likely be able to find a campground where you can stay.
- The Fun
Campground owners in New York State go out of their way to make sure that their guests have a great time during their stay. Many campgrounds have weekly themes with special activities that support the theme. In addition, many have special events, concerts, campground-wide games, and more.
The nice thing about camping is that you can choose to participate in as much or as little of the campground activities as you’d like depending on the type of stay you’re looking to have.
- The Friends
Many campgrounds have repeat visitors every year, creating a community of friends. Though, even if you’re new to the campground, the number of activities available and the community amenities make meeting new people easy. Along with return visitors, the coming and going of new visitors, makes for a good many opportunities for seeing old friends and making new ones.
- The Scenery
There is no denying that New York State is home to some of the best scenery in the country. From Niagara Falls, to the Finger Lakes region, to the Hudson Valley region and everywhere in between, the landscape plays a key role in the decision on where to camp. The great thing about camping is that you don’t have to decide on just one location. Each time you venture out to camp, you can choose a different area to visit with a whole new offering of visual delights.
