Central New York (formerly known as the Central Leatherstocking Region) is a historically significant area, with museums and historic sites dedicated to the Eric Canal, the abolitionist movement, Oneida Nation culture, and the Revolutionary War, among other notable peoples, places and events.
The area was settled by the family of James Fenimore Cooper, author of the classic novels in "The Leatherstocking Tales."
Here, too, you'll find four sporting halls of fame, celebrating boxing, distance running, twirling and, of course, baseball - namely, the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Central New York has wonderful scenery and landscapes; consider the earth as you explore stone formations at Howe Caverns or uncover a gem at an area diamond mine.
