camping with kids

There is no better way to spend quality time with your family than by planning a camping trip. But, we understand that camping with kids can be just as rewarding and fun as it is challenging. Between double checking to make sure you’ve packed everything, making itineraries for your days and planning activities so no one gets bored, it can take away from the relaxation.

Luckily, we’ve put together a list of camping ideas for kids as well as a list of kids camping gear so we can help to take some of that pre-planning stress off your back.

What to Do

Learn About Your Campground

First, we suggest you get to know a little about the campground you’ve chosen to stay at. When it comes to camping with kids, we understand that there should never be a shortage of fun. That’s why many of the CONY campgrounds are kid-friendly, offering tons of amenities and activities catered to children like pools, playgrounds, rec halls, games and more. Some campgrounds even host weekend events that the whole family can enjoy.

Nature Scavenger Hunt

Who doesn’t love a good scavenger hunt? Nature scavenger hunts nurture and encourage your kids’ natural urge to explore. There’s so much to see and find in Mother Nature, so put together a list and see who can find everything first! It’s a great way to get your kids outside and keep busy in a fun, innovative way.

Flashlight Tag

Flashlight tag is a fun, interesting spin on the classic favorites, hide-and-go-seek and tag. Rules may vary, but the basic premise is one person is “it” and tries to spot his/her friends in the dark using the flashlight. Whoever is spotted first becomes “it” next. Flashlight games such as flashlight tag is a great nighttime activity your kids will love.

Campfire Stories

Kids are natural storytellers, and there’s no better time for their mind to run wild than by gathering around the campfire with the family after a long day. Whether you’re sharing stories or making up stories, campfire time is a great time to bond with your kids. You can also turn it into a game by having one person start a sentence and the next person continues it and so on.
