In this post, we are focused on camping in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. This region has so much to offer, from wineries, to museums, to dozens of campgrounds. Rochester, Naples, Ithaca, Cortland and Syracuse are just a few cities that make up the Finger Lakes region, and each of those cities have amazing activities that makes it difficult to choose a destination!
Have you ever tried to name all the Finger Lakes? There are a whopping eleven, and among those are Cayuga Lake, Honeoye Lake, Seneca Lake, Keuka Lake, and Conesus Lake. With eleven lakes in this region, you can imagine there are plenty of campgrounds with exciting water activities!

Museums, Museums, and more Museums!
There are numerous museums in the Finger Lakes Region! The most historically significant may be the Women's Rights Hall of Fame and National Historic Park located in Seneca, NY. In addition, the home of Harriet Tubman can be found in Auburn, NY. Nearby Rochester also offers nationally renowned museums such as the Strong Museum of Play and Rochester Museum and Science Center. Further south the Corning Museum of Glass has so much to offer, from tours, to blowing your own glass, you will never get bored here! Be sure to get a souvenir for memories you will never forget!
The Finger Lakes Region may be most well-known for its award winning wineries. The rich soil surrounding the Finger Lakes makes it an ideal area for growing grapes and in return, fine wine. Most every lake in the Finger Lakes region has a number of wineries available for visiting and wine tasting. If wine is not your thing, the area also has beer and cider crafters as well as distilleries. And, even if a drink is not your thing, many wineries offer a nice meal and beautiful view.
Of course the region's numerous lakes bring the opportunity for water activities. Some campgrounds in the Finger Lakes are located on or near a lake for easy accessibility. But, no matter where you're staying, with so many lakes, you're never too far from water in the Finger Lakes. Everything from boat and jet ski rentals, to fishing equipment, to family friendly beaches, the lakes in the Finger Lakes region are a great area for water lovers. The water can also be an opportunity for a more relaxing activity like a boat cruise or spa day.
The Great Outdoors
The Finger Lakes Region also offers many non-lake activities both in the warmer and colder months. The area offers a number of downhill and cross country ski options as well as opportunities for ice skating and sledding. In the warmer months, the Finger Lakes area has many areas for biking and hiking, amusement and water parks, as well as golf courses.
The beauty of the area and wealth of available activities makes the Finger Lakes region is an ideal area for camping.
