New York Camping Bucket List

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving” – Terry Pratchett

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “bucket list”; a list of all those things you’d like to do and see during your lifetime. Some may be as adventurous as climbing a mountain while some may be as simple as running a 5K. This bucket list idea can really apply to any topic whether it be a list of goals you’d like to complete before you’re 50, or places you’d like to visit while you’re still able to travel.

CONYguideCover2016FinalResizedforWeb.jpgWe thought we’d carry this idea over to our specialty… camping in New York State. Therefore, the theme of the 2016 CONY Campground and RV Park Guide is aptly titled, “Plan Your ‘Bucket list’ Camping Adventure”. We were inspired to use this theme through a series of other blog posts that we discovered over the past year including this one titled, “New York 2015 Travel Bucket List” and another titled “The Ultimate Upstate NY Bucket List: 15 things you must do at least once.” The I Love NY website blog also has a more recent post named “New York 2016 Travel Bucket List”.

These posts list the many of the top points of interest in New York State; and because of New York’s rich history and beautiful landscape, there are many to be included. Our focus however centers on our area of expertise, camping and travel in New York State and the creation of an ultimate New York camping and travel bucket list.

We’ve already been working on starting this list by talking to friends in the industry including campground operators and tourism colleagues across New York State. These ideas are found throughout our 2016 New York Campground and RV Park Guide, and a collection of ideas is on page 81 of the guide. Some include: the JELL-O Gallery Museum in LeRoy, the Lucy Desi Center for Comedy in Jamestown, The National Soaring Museum in Elmira, whitewater rafting in the Adirondacks, the Herkimer Diamond Mines in Herkimer and many more.
