Although it’s almost November, there is still plenty of time to enjoy fall activities before winter arrives. Here are some of the events that you can enjoy in New York State over the next month.
There are still locations in New York State where the changing color of the leaves is either at peak or near peak. Check out the New York State Fall Foliage Report to see where you can still enjoy the beautiful colors of the season. Planning a drive through these regions is one of the best ways to enjoy the scenery. If you’re looking for a place to spend the night, some campgrounds are still open. Halloween in fast approaching, but there are still some adventures to be had this last week of October. Try out a haunted history tour – there are still some available through the 31st including a Haunted History Ghost Walk in Lyons, NY, a Haunted History Ghost Walk in Lewiston, NY, or Mason Winfield Haunted History Ghost Walks in the Buffalo area. The town of Sleepy Hollow, known for its haunted history, has many Halloween-related events including cemetery tours and the Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze, many of which run through November. Or, determine your own haunted path by visiting the Haunted History Trail of New York State website which allows you to search for hauntings by region and location. If you’re up for one of these haunted events, check out campgrounds in the area that are still open – many of these campgrounds have their own Halloween festivities as well.
Fall is for Foodies
If you like foods made with pumpkin, squash, apples, grapes and other fall flavors, New York State is perfect this time of year. Many New York State restaurants are now featuring dishes using these fall ingredients that are often brought in fresh from local farms from the region. In addition, many restaurants are also now offering fall drinks including pumpkin beers, new ciders, and other drinks to keep you warm on a cold day.
That’s right, spring and summer are not the only times for golfing! Fall is a great time to get a golf game in as the weather is cooler, crowds are down, and the scenery is good. Although baseball is coming to an end, the World Series has begun and one of New York's major league baseball teams, the Mets, is currently vying for the championship - Go Mets! There are a number of sports seasons that are just beginning, from Football to Basketball to Hockey, there are numerous sports options in the fall. Of course New York is lucky to have three professional football teams, the Bills, the Giants, and the Jets. Fall also begins the season for basketball with the New York Knicks. And hockey starts for New York’s two teams, the New York Rangers and the Buffalo Sabres. In addition to professional teams, there are many semi-professional and college teams for those looking to stay local.
Whatever your preference in activity, the fall is a great time of year to be out and about. Though the weather is cooler, there are still plenty of warm days to enjoy being outside. Take advantage of these remaining days of the fall season and plan a day trip or weekend excursion. And, remember that there are still some campgrounds open for a stay, many have cabins or other indoor lodging if you're looking for a warmer stay - look for one near you!
